Wattpad vote history: limits, author counts and contest penalties
Wattpad lets a reader vote once per story part and up to 100 times in 24 hours. The help page on voting describes no Wattpad vote history for readers, while authors can check the count for each story part and the overall story. Votes do not affect ranking, and the 2025 Watty Awards contest rules forbid automated and exchanged votes.

What a vote means on Wattpad: the definition in its own pages
Wattpad describes itself as a place to discover, write and share original stories, and it says readers and writers are equally important to its community and its business. Its creator pages add that a writer can publish stories and share them with an audience.
Outside descriptions fit that picture. The Australian eSafety Commissioner calls Wattpad a social media service where writers and readers share stories, comment on stories, add profile comments and send and receive private messages. Internet Matters calls it an online social reading platform that encourages users to create and share stories.
Inside that set of features, a vote is a counted response to one story part. The help page titled Voting on a story sets the boundaries and adds that votes do not impact how a story is ranked. A second help page, on writing and promoting stories, tells authors where the number appears: next to the read count and the number of comments.
Put together, the definition is narrow: a count on one story part, limited by part and by the clock, visible to the author and left out of ranking.
How it works, explained: once per story part, 100 times in 24 hours
The mechanics sit on two Wattpad help pages. Voting on a story sets the limits, and Voting issues sets the condition on the account. Together they give four rules:
Each rule counts something different. The first counts story parts, the second counts hours, the third counts who the voter is, and the fourth counts connectivity. Because each part takes a single cast, reaching the ceiling of 100 takes 100 different story parts within 24 hours.
- Once per story part: a reader can cast a single vote on each part of a story.
- 100 times in 24 hours: the ceiling on casts for one reader.
- A verified account: the Voting issues page says stories can only be voted on with one.
- An online device: a vote cast while offline is not registered until the device connects to the internet.
How to vote on Wattpad from the story page
The vote button sits in a different place on the web and in the iOS and Android apps, and each device has two routes to it: while reading a story part and at the end of the part.
All four routes start on the page of a story part and end in a single cast for that part, counted against the limit of 100 in 24 hours.
- Web, while reading: open a story part and click the button on the upper right corner of the menu bar.
- Web, at the end of a part: scroll down to the end of the story and click the button above the comments.
- iOS or Android, while reading: tap the reading screen, then the button on the bottom left corner of the menu bar.
- iOS or Android, at the end of a part: scroll or swipe to the end, then tap the button on the bottom left corner of the menu bar.
Wattpad vote history: counts for authors, nothing described for readers
Authors have a documented record. Wattpad's help page on writing and promoting stories says an author can check the read count, the vote count and the number of comments posted on each story part or on the overall story.
For a reader's own past votes, the picture is thinner. The help page on voting describes the button, the limits and the offline delay, and it describes no screen that lists what a reader has cast. The only vote history the help pages describe is the author's count per story part and per story.
The count is a total: how many votes a part or a story has received. The description names no voter, date or time attached to an individual cast.
On the author's side, a Wattpad vote history is a number, one per story part and one for the story overall.
What voting does on Wattpad: it adds to the author's count
The help page on voting is direct about one effect: votes do not impact how a story is ranked. A reader who casts one changes a number the author can see and leaves the ranking alone.
For anyone counting on votes to lift a story, Wattpad's own page closes that route, because its ranking ignores them.
Other routes to readers appear in Wattpad's descriptions of itself. Writers publish stories and share them with an audience, and the Australian eSafety Commissioner says the platform highlights stories to potential readers and offers writing resources, awards and the chance to connect with publishers and screen producers.
Watty Awards contest rules: what is forbidden and what follows
The Watty Awards Contest Rules 2025, published by Wattpad, attach penalties to voting methods in that contest. They prohibit three kinds of conduct:
Two penalties follow from those clauses. Suspected or detected voting-method violations can lead to the disqualification of all votes received from that voter or through that method. And if Wattpad concludes that an entrant colluded in, participated in or encouraged the prohibited activity, it can disqualify that entrant from this or future contests and from eligibility for any prize.
The wording reaches suspicion as well as proof: a suspected violation is enough to put a voter's count or a whole method at risk. The rules do not say how Wattpad detects a violation, so no detection signal can be named here.
The penalties belong to the Watty Awards contest rules, which govern that contest, not ordinary story voting on Wattpad.
- Voters, entrants and other participants are prohibited from obtaining or soliciting votes by offering prizes or other inducements to members of the public.
- Robotic, repetitive, automatic, programmed, mechanical, script, macro and any other automated means of voting are prohibited.
- Contest-voting services, vote farming, purchasing and exchanging are prohibited, as is any other activity that artificially or unfairly increases votes.

What to do
-
Use a verified account
Wattpad's help page on voting issues says stories can only be voted on with a verified account, so the account comes first.
-
Open a story part
A vote attaches to a single story part, so open the part itself, in a browser or in the iOS or Android app.
-
Press the button
Click the button on the web or tap it in the app; one click or tap counts once for that part.
-
Keep to the limits
Each story part takes one cast, and a reader reaches the limit at 100 in 24 hours.
-
Reconnect after going offline
A vote cast offline is not registered until the device is connected to the internet again.
Frequently asked
How to vote on Wattpad?
A reader casts a vote on Wattpad by opening a story part and using the button: upper right of the menu bar on the web, bottom left in the app. Only a verified account can vote on stories, and each story part takes one.
What does vote mean on Wattpad?
A Wattpad vote is one count on one story part, which authors can check for each part and for the overall story. The platform limits it to once per story part and 100 times in 24 hours.
What does voting do on Wattpad?
Voting adds one to the count an author can check for that story part. Wattpad states that ranking ignores it: votes do not impact how a story is ranked.
Where can a Wattpad vote history be checked?
Authors can check the count for each story part and for the overall story, according to Wattpad's help page on writing and promoting stories. The help page on voting describes no list of what a reader has cast.
Why is a Wattpad vote not registering?
Two conditions in Wattpad's help pages decide whether a vote registers: the account must be verified, and a cast made offline waits until the device is back online. The once-per-part rule and the limit of 100 in 24 hours also apply.
Can Wattpad disqualify votes in the Watty Awards?
Yes. Under the 2025 Watty Awards contest rules, a suspected or detected violation of the voting method can lead to the disqualification of all votes received from that voter or through that method. Wattpad can also disqualify an entrant from this and future contests and from any prize if it concludes the entrant colluded in, took part in or encouraged prohibited voting.
How to get more views and votes on Wattpad?
Wattpad states that votes do not impact how a story is ranked, so a higher count is not a route up the ranking. Authors can check read, vote and comment counts for each story part, and the Australian eSafety Commissioner says Wattpad highlights stories to potential readers and offers awards.

This page cannot show a reader's own list of votes, because the help page on voting describes none, and it cannot add, remove or check a vote on any account. Whether a vote counts is Wattpad's decision under its published rules, and no review outcome can be predicted from outside. The page offers no method for raising a count from outside Wattpad.
Reddit prohibits vote manipulation and counts using voting services, or asking people to vote on specific posts for personal gain, as manipulation. Product Hunt prohibits asking for upvotes, using bots and incentivizing upvotes. The Search for a Champion rules void votes from commercial contest subscriptions and vote-swapping sites, and the organiser may disqualify the entrant.

Hacker News says it uses software to detect and protect against voting rings, and that its anti-abuse software drops some votes. IMDb says it may apply a different weighting calculation when it detects unusual rating activity. Ordinary participation is a spread of unconnected people voting at different times, which is the baseline these systems measure against, and this describes their checks without offering any way past them.
The documents cited here are platform terms, so the consequences they state are contractual: removal, vote resets, suspension, delisting or account termination. Hyvote prohibits vote manipulation, including buying or selling votes for a server listing. Whether a payment for votes is also lawful in a given country is outside these sources and belongs to a lawyer. Boards whose terms bar paid votes, contests that void them and political ballots are refused.
Once voting closes, an order for a board or contest that has not reached its published count is refunded for the part not delivered. Nothing is refunded for action by the platform: Hytale Servers says servers found manipulating votes face vote resets, suspension, delisting or account termination, and TopG may reset votes and freeze a listing when it catches cheating. No rank or result is promised.
